Much of Harrow was built by the Metropolitan Railway between the wars, and the estates around Pinner, Rayners Lane and Harrow Weald still have the shape that came with that: generous plots, wide frontages, mock-Tudor semis and detached houses with garages and outbuildings.
That footprint is the whole story from a networking point of view. These are wide houses rather than tall ones, and the router sits at one end. A single access point that would comfortably cover a flat covers about two thirds of a Metro-land semi, and the third it misses is usually the garage conversion or the room over it — the exact rooms people have turned into offices in the last five years.
Stanmore and Hatch End add a further step, with larger detached properties and outbuildings genuinely too far for anything indoors. Those need a wired link out rather than another repeater indoors, and the difference in result is not marginal.
Harrow on the Hill is the one to flag before booking. There is conservation-area and period stock up there where external cable runs and anything fixed to the front elevation may need consent, and it is better to plan a route through the building than to discover the restriction with a drill in hand.
